Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of a life-threatening events such as military combat, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, serious accidents, or physical or sexual assault in adult or childhood. Around 9% of Americans are currently affected by PTSD.
Grounding Therapy
Grounding is currently a strategy used by PTSD patients to detach away from emotional pain. Its works by focusing on your external surroundings rather than on your inner emotions. Grounding is helpful and recommended if you are experiencing flashbacks and you find yourself losing touch with yourself in the present moment. Common objects for grounding include rocks, crystals and stones.

"I prefer natural and spiritual forms of treatment. I don't want to be dependent on medication to ease my stress."
"I carry these stones and crystals with me all the time. Whenever I feel unstable, I grab one out and close my eyes and focus on it. It helps ground me from my emotional feelings inside."
Sense by Phillips
Sense was created for PTSD patients to ground themselves and record instances of traumatic flashbacks. The touch activation of the sensor turns the microphone on to let the user leave a brief message on how they’re feeling at the time. This information would be later reviewed at therapy sessions, which would give the therapist a closer insight and understanding on the patient’s thoughts and feelings. With this increased level of communication, therapists can develop a more comprehensive treatment and PTSD patients can improve recovery times.
Features:
Texture for tactile feedback/grounding
